Kathmandu - Applications have opened for the seventh edition of the Annual Nepal AI School (ANAIS), a programme aimed at developing knowledge, skills and research capacity in artificial intelligence (AI) in Nepal.
Organised annually by the Nepal Applied Mathematics and Informatics Institute for Research (NAAMII) since 2018, ANAIS 2026 will be held from December 28, 2026 to January 7, 2027 (Poush 13–23, 2083) at Kathmandu World School in Suryabinayak, Bhaktapur.
According to the organisers, more than 200 participants from Nepal and around the world and over 20 AI experts are expected to take part in this year's programme.
The 10-day programme will include AI lectures, hands-on laboratory sessions and a hackathon. A one-day hiking programme will also be organised for participants.
What Will Participants Learn?
ANAIS 2026 will cover a range of contemporary topics in artificial intelligence, including:
Fundamentals of machine learning
Geometric deep learning
Neuro-symbolic AI
World models
Generative modelling
Applications of AI in society and industry
The programme is designed to combine theoretical learning with practical sessions, giving participants an opportunity to engage with current developments in AI research and applications.
Researchers and Professors from Around the World
Researchers and professors from a number of leading universities and research institutions are expected to serve as speakers at ANAIS 2026.
The participating institutions include the University of Oxford, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, IIT Kanpur, TU Wien, Stanford University, NTU Singapore, University of Verona, Mila – Quebec AI Institute, Kathmandu University, Aethera and NAAMII, among others.
The organisers say the programme will bring together researchers, academics and participants from different countries and academic backgrounds.
More Than 900 Participants Have Attended Previous Editions
ANAIS has developed into an international AI learning programme since its first edition.
According to NAAMII, previous editions of the school have brought together more than 925 participants from over 41 countries, along with more than 92 speakers. The organisers say the programme has received more than 2,500 applications to date.
Application Deadlines
Those interested in participating in ANAIS 2026 can apply under different application categories.
The deadline for international scholarship applications is October 10 (Ashwin 24), while applications for the national scholarship can be submitted until October 31 (Kartik 14).
The deadline for general applications is November 15 (Kartik 29).
The organisers have stated that scholarship places are limited. Women and applicants from marginalised communities will be given priority for scholarships. A special scholarship arrangement is also available for participants coming from outside the Kathmandu Valley.
